About

I saw myself.  I wore a long dress which was a green leaf print on a white background.  It was the same dress I'd worn when I went to make hajj 6 years earlier.

But now I was standing on a cliff, a hundred feet above the water.  Ahead of me was the pale blue sky.  Below me and to the left was the darker blue of the Atlantic Ocean.  The water curved around the cliff to the right and became the turquoise of the Mediterrean Sea.  Then I woke up.

That brief dream was a sign of my life to come, but not just then.  Not for another 25 years.  That's when I came to live in Morocco.  My hejira.

I live in Marrakech among ordinary working people. Sometimes the small details of their lives are a window onto Moroccan culture.

Each day there are moments of humor and insight, confusion and misunderstanding, of tests and tremendous blessings for the soul.
